An Ancient Greek mythology Action/RPG from Liquid Entertainment
Rise of the Argonauts is an action RPG being developed by Liquid Entertainment and published by Codemasters. The game is a unique retelling of Jason and the Argonauts from Ancient Greek mythology. Jason is the King of Iolcus and is about to be married. His wife is killed on their wedding day. Finding the Golden Fleece is his only hope of bringing her back. You’ll play as Jason, fighting alongside Hercules, Achilles, and other Argonauts as you take on beasts and other creatures on a quest for the Golden Fleece.

In a developer diary in August of this year, the President of Liquid Entertainment, Ed Del Castillo gave some insight to what it’ll feel like to play Rise of the Argonauts. He begins by saying: “Jason starts off as a King. He’s well trained and not some rug rat that’s running around killing pigs. RPG’s always make you start off doing the things that are just grunt work.”
He goes on to point out, “From the very beginning of this game, you start off being someone cool. You start off being someone that people bow to and someone who people have reverence for, and who people know. Then you build on that. You go from being good to great – not from being sucky to good.”
The developers have stated that they want to push the action RPG genre forward. They want to improve upon some things that you traditionally expect to see in an RPG. So, for instance, instead of having a damage meter and other elements that are typically displayed in a Heads Up Display (HUD), instead you’ll be able to tell that your character is hurt by the way he looks and carries himself. Another thing that bothered them is the amount of time you spend slogging through menus. So they’ve taken it to a bare minimum.

Additionally, they want more realistic combat. So don’t expect to be stabbing a guy 10 times in the chest and have them keep coming at you. Your moves will be powerful and deadly when they land. The team want reasons for the armor that you wear, and not just having you randomly pick up stuff to put on. There will be story behind the items you possess and reasons to use one item over another.
