With the success of the Wii, unique games have been on the rise. Motion sensing is the new fad in gaming allowing players to shift, move and groove with their interactive experience. It’s no shock that with this rising trend that the remaining two of the “Big Three” would jump on the band wagon in some way. Sony’s first real attempt at the motion centered gameplay was a mysterious indie title simply called, flOw.
flOw's creatures are really strange, but in an interesting artistic way.
Remarkably unique and fresh, flOw puts you in the shoes, or tentacles, of a struggling organism in the depths of some imaginative waters. Your objective is a basic one; consume everything in your path to evolve into a creature to be reckoned with. You will guide your organism around using the SIXAXIS, tilting the controller in the direction you wish to move and only tapping the face buttons for a slight boost of speed.
As you consume the littler creatures of the deep you will begin to evolve. New tentacles sprout. A giant fan of a tail will begin to trail behind you. As you continue to get bigger and move to a deeper stage of evolution you will be able to take down the larger creatures that block your progress. This is achieved by munching away at key points on their structure until they just fall apart. Then it becomes feasting time.
Simplicity can still look sweet.
Simple, sure, but that is the beauty of a game like flOw. It concentrates on one aspect, and hammers it home. Tight controls don’t frustrate, and while they take a little time to perfect, once you get into the swing of it you find your hands swishing and swirling around without a second thought.
