Unfortunately, there is just not enough of this newly iterated combat in single player. It lasts mainly through the first two acts and then transforms back into pure stealth and linear action, and then transforms once again into mini skirmishes followed by cutscenes. It’s the same problem that plagued Metal Gear Solid 2, both games have a lot to say and unfortunately the cutscenes that are doing the talking take over the intuitive gameplay.

This is my major complaint of the game. While the cutscenes certainly are enjoyable and very pretty to look at, I still found myself wanting to back to the battlefield every now and then. Normally, this is where Metal Gear Online would come in, but seeing how we got the game the same time you guys did and it’s still early in its release, we are going to devote a separate review to MGO, that will allow us to go as in depth as possible. But for those longing for the combat; it’s in the package and waiting for you when you finish the story.



Now for the garnishes of the game… err, there’s not much. Snake does have an iPod though! With that, Snake can listen to the musical score of not just this game, but the music from the rest of the games as well. Players can also download the “Metal Gear Solid Integral Podcast”. I kid you not, one of the game’s downloadable contents is a five and a half minute version of the “Kojima Productions Report”, but the Integral podcast will be dealing with the game itself.

Basically it promises to be an audio strategy guide of sorts that will point out different things in the game you may have missed. So hey, if you loved the KojiPro Report, or just love to hear Ryan Payton say “Metal Gear Solid Integral Podcast” every minute or so, you can snatch the first episode now. Honestly, it’s really cheesy, but hey, it’s something I guess. Other downloads include camo for the Octocamo and more musical scores. There’s only one download for each product available now, but Payton promises more to come in the coming months.
